(Analysis) Rajasthan Women (Prevention of Atrocities), Bill-2012

http://www.iasplanner.com/civilservices/images/Rajasthan-Women.jpgBeing first of its kind in the country, the Rajasthan Cabinet has recently cleared the draft for the Bill to prevent atrocities on women. It has been modeled on the lines of SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act in certain aspects.

Highlights of the Bill are as follows:
(i) Special courts will be set up in the State to hear the complaints of atrocities on women. And a provision for compensation to the victim has to be provided very soon.
(ii) The offences punishable under the proposed legislation include.
(a) Insults to woman by words, either spoken on written.
(b) or by sings or by visible representation or otherwise.

Acts with intent to cause injury insult, fear, obstruction, danger or annoyance to a women by following her.

(c) Or making her obnoxious calls or transmitting to her obnoxious material through any electronic device.
(iii) Denial of any customary right to passage to a place of public resort to any woman, obstructing her so as to prevent her from using or having access to place of public resort to which others have a right to access to and compelling or enticing a women to do 'begar' or other forms of forced or bonded labour comes under the ambit of the law.
