(Analysis) Revision of Pension Schemes by the Government

Pension Schemes by the Government In a move to benefit 76 lakh below poverty line widows and 11 lakh persons with disabilities, the union cabinet has recently approved the revised norms and enhanced rates of various pension schemes.

Highlights

(i) Pension under the ongoing Indira Gandhi National widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) will be enhanced from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per month. The eligibility criteria too will be revised from 40-49 years to 40-79 years.

(ii) Disbursement under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) is being revised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per month and the eligibility criteria from 18-59 years.

(iii) Further, 3.56 lakh BPL families will receive an enhanced one time lump sum grant of Rs. 20000, up from Rs. 10000 in the event of the death of the primary breadwinner in the family. And its eligibility criteria will be revised from 18-64 years to 18-59 years.
