History and Art & Culture
Several aspects we have seen in the exams in last three years. One is the overwhelming focus of the Modern History. So, you need not worried too much about ancient history and medieval history. You should concentrate on Post Mughal Period. And that is where most of the questions are coming as far as the history part is concern. No need for world history or ancient history. We will not say that you should leave these sections but you have to cover these section from old 6th & 7th NCERT books and that will be more than sufficient.
Now, art & culture is very important. If around 20 questions are coming in history and Art & Culture, it around 12 to 13 may be from history part and 7 to 8 question from art & culture. But this section you should study right from the ancient times, even medieval art or art architecture during Jains and all those aspects right from the beginning. We will generally suggest you to study this art & culture a bit more than what people might have been doing earlier. In last three years there is a slight shift in the preparation approach and focus of the questions. This section when you study for prelims and it is again very important for the mains exam also, and that will give you an added advantage and Art & Culture should not be ignored.
So, when it comes to History the focus is Modern History and in-depth study. You can not study History in a superficial manner, you must study with a good understanding and analysis. History should not be studied factually, it should be studied with understanding, reason and some analysis which is going to help you in writing preliminary as well as mains exam also.
