Congress come to accept the partition of India.

IAS Mains General Studies Sample Answers

Topic: Why and how did the congress come to accept the partition of the country?

The partition of the country was accepted as an inevitable evil. Congress failed to integrate Muslims into the nation. Violent riots of Hindu-Muslims had erupted in the country. Bloodshed of masses was the result of Jinnah’s direct action call. The congress had to accept the partition to check these communal riots.

Gandhiji had accepted Muslims right to self determination in Muslim majority provinces. Smaller, unified and strong India would be better than a bigger but weak India, it was argued by some leaders. Princely states had not been given sovereignty rights which would have proved dangerous for India security and integrity.

Along with it Jinnah had accepted Pakistan shortened than earlier. And above all partition was accepted as a price for immediate independence because all other efforts had failed to materialize.
