Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)

Programme aims at providing services to preschool children in an integrated manner so as to ensure proper growth and development of children in rural, tribal and slum areas is called the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). It is a centrally sponsored scheme.

Objectives of this scheme are as follows:
(i) To provide nutritious food to children below 6 years and mothers and to improve health.
(ii) To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school drop-out.
(iii) To lay the foundations for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child.
(iv) To develop children and different departments concerned and their activities related issues should be taken care.
(v) To enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education.

Almost 5000 planning are going on presently, where in 378 lakh people are being benefited under ICDS.
